Ascent for Alzheimer's: Online Diary - Track the movements of the world team as they ascend Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain in a symbolic act of international unity against dementia.

On World Alzheimer’s Day in September 2006, Jean Barnas Haratsaris, Education and Training Coordinator, embarked on an incredible journey with 10 people from across the world that lead them to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI), supported by the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia has formed the Ascent for Alzheimer World Team as a symbol of international unity and cooperation in our struggle against dementia.

In 2006, it will be 100 years since Dr. Alois Alzheimer first described the devastating disease that would later go on to bear his name. The Ascent for Alzheimer’s commemorates the centenary with an international challenge to raise money and awareness for a disease that affects over 24 million people worldwide.
