We all may feel sad or "blue" on occasion, as it is very normal to grieve over upsetting life experiences such as a major illness, a death in the family, a loss of a job, or a divorce.  Whether you are the individual diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia or you are providing care for a person with dementia, you can expect to have feelings of loss and grief as your life and the person you love are changed by the disease.  In fact, recent studies reveal that depression is found in 20 percent of persons with Alzheimer's disease and in up to 50 percent of Alzheimer caregivers.
