The Alzheimer's Association - Greater Michigan Chapter, founded in 1981, is a private, non-profit, voluntary health organization and one of over 80 chapters across the United States. The Greater Michigan Chapter headquartered in Southfield, with regional offices in Alpena, Flint, Grand Rapids, Marquette, Midland and Traverse City, covers 60 counties and makes services available to more then 138,000 individuals and their families who have Alzheimer's disease or related dementias. The Alzheimer's Association is the only national voluntary health organization dedicated to researching the prevention, cures and treatments of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, and providing support and assistance to those affected by the disease and their families.

MISSION: To enhance the quality of living for all persons affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia -related disorders by providing leadership, programs and services, advocacy awareness and research support.”
Description of key elements of the Mission Statement
- Enhance the Quality of Living: Assisting individuals to maintain their optimum level of functioning.
- Other Dementia-Related Disorders: Disorders with symptoms that are similar to and/or mistaken for those that are the direct result of Alzheimer’s disease.
- Leadership: Taking the initiative in helping ourselves and others, provide the highest quality services for our constituents.
- Programs and Services: Tangible, daily living support systems that help persons with Alzheimer’s disease, and families, cope with the illness.
- Advocacy Awareness: Supporting and encouraging programs, services, public policy efforts, and public and private financial funding on behalf of persons with Alzheimer’s disease and their families.
- Research Support: Encouraging and assisting the scientific pursuit of a treatment and cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
